Publication list

Michal Haindl graduated from the Czech Technical University in Prague and earned his Ph.D. from the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1983, 
later obtaining the Sc.D. degree in 2001. He is a Fellow of both the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR) and the Asia-Pacific Artificial Intelligence Association (AAIA), a Senior Member of IEEE, and holds the academic title of Professor.

Since 1983, he has been engaged in research on various topics in image analysis and pattern recognition. His career has included positions at the Institute of Information Theory and Automation (UTIA) of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Prague; the University of Newcastle; Rutherford Appleton Laboratory; CWI in Amsterdam; and INRIA in Rocquencourt. In 1995, he returned to UTIA, where he currently serves as the 
Head of the Pattern Recognition Department.

He has held part-time research and teaching roles at several universities, where he has taught courses in pattern recognition and advanced pattern recognition—most recently at the Faculty of Information Technology, Czech Technical University in Prague. He has supervised several successful Ph.D. and M.Sc. students.

MH has led or co-led numerous major research initiatives, including large-scale EU-funded and national projects. He has frequently been elected to key scientific leadership roles at both national and international levels and has served on numerous 
scientific advisory and evaluation committees.

Under his leadership, his team received the Award of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic in 2011 for outstanding results of fundamental scientific importance. His current research interests include the application of random fields in pattern recognition and image processing, artificial intelligence, and bidirectional texture function (BTF) texture modeling.
