About Us
The Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the CAS (UTIA) is a non-university public research institution established by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. We are a modern institute with high-quality infrastructure and a good international reputation. UTIA conducts basic and applied research in artificial intelligence, signal and image processing and analysis, systems science, and selected parts of applied mathematics and computer science.
Our mission is not only to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and scholarship but also to transfer theoretical results into application areas and practice. The Institute is involved in European and national research programs and structures, including the Strategy AV21. We are widely involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, collaborating with universities in research and teaching, lecturing, and training PhD students. We contribute to disseminating scientific information by publishing in the journal Kybernetika. Through many other activities, we contribute to popularizing science and research with respect to the public and the service of the scientific community and governmental authorities. UTIA is an expert institute in the field of Cybernetics and Computing.
A director with representatives for research and operations heads the Institute. Other important bodies are the Institute Council and the Supervisory Board.
