Petr Tichavský graduated from the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering (FJFI) at the Czech Technical University (CTU) in Prague, 1982-1987, majoring in mathematical engineering.
He already started to work at UTIA in the second year of his study as a student researcher, under the supervision of prof. Vošvrda. After completing one year of military service, he started his postgraduate studies at UTIA, which he completed in 1992 by obtaining the degree of CSc in theoretical cybernetics. Since then, he has been working as a researcher at this institute in the Department of Stochastic Informatics. In 1994-1995 he completed a 10-month internship at Yale University in the USA, supported by a Fulbright scholarship.
In 2018 P. Tichavský defended his "Doctor of Science" thesis at the Czech Academy of Sciences and received the title of DSc. (research professor). Professionally, P. Tichavský cooperated with FJFI CTU, where he was a supervisor of several students. The most important student with whom P. Tichavský collaborated is the current Prof. Koldovský at the Technical University of Liberec.
P. Tichavsky has four grown-up children and two granddaughters. He lives with his wife and two youngest sons in Prague. He is a member of the Christian Fellowship in Prague.
