Emeritus employee Jiří Záworka, DrSc., has passed away
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jiří Záworka, DrSc. (1934-2025), Emeritus Researcher at the Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Jiří Záworka contributed significantly to the development of the institute and the field of mathematical and simulation modeling of controlled systems, particularly in the study of large network dynamics and control. He gradually turned his attention to the dynamic properties of polarographic analyzers, rectification columns, evaporators, rotary cement kilns, and gas flow properties in extensive pipe networks.
In 1995, together with his colleagues, he founded the spin-off company SIMONE Research Group, which develops software for mathematical and simulation modeling and control of long-distance gas transport. This software has been adopted by most of the world's gas transport companies. In 1997, he and his team were awarded the prestigious European IT Prize by the European Commission. He was a member of the Engineering Academy of the Czech Republic since 1998.
Jiří Záworka published a number of scientific papers and was recognized not only for his scientific contributions, but also for his support to applied research and cooperation with industry. In 2017, he was awarded a diploma of emeritus employee of ÚTIA for his contributions to the development of the Institute and the field.
We remember him not only as an outstanding scientist, but also as a colleague who inspired many generations of researchers.
May his memory live on.
