12/16/2025 Academic Distinction – Professorial Appointment

Yesterday, a ceremonial presentation of appointment decrees to newly appointed professors took place in the Great Hall of the Carolinum. The decrees were conferred by the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, upon nomination by the scientific councils of higher education institutions.

We are proud to share that one of the newly appointed professors is the Head of the Econometrics Department at the Institute of Information Theory and Automation of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prof. Jozef Baruník, Ph.D., who was appointed Professor in the field of Economic Theory.

Professor Baruník is a highly regarded economist and an expert in financial economics, time series analysis, and modern quantitative methods. His research focuses in particular on high-frequency data, economic modelling, and the application of machine learning in finance. He is among the most cited economists in the Czech Republic and has received a number of prestigious grants and academic awards.

In 2024, he served as a member of the European Research Council (ERC) grant evaluation panel, underscoring his strong international academic reputation.

Warm congratulations on this significant professional milestone!
