Vzdělání

Jan Flusser se narodil 30. dubna 1962 v Praze. Vystudoval Fakultu jadernou a fyzikálně inženýrskou ČVUT v Praze, obor matematické inženýrství (1985). V roce 1990 získal vědeckou hodnost CSc. v oboru výpočetní technika a v roce 2001 vědeckou hodnost DrSc. v oboru technická kybernetika.

Pracovní pozice 

Jan Flusser od roku 1985 pracuje v Ústavu teorie informace a automatizace AV ČR (původně ČSAV). V roce 1993 absolvoval jednosemestrální post-doktorský pobyt na Flinders University, Adelaide, South Australia. Byl vedoucím oddělení Zpracování obrazové informace (1995 – 2007), předsedou Vědecké rady ÚTIA (1998 – 2006), ředitelem ÚTIA (2007 - 2017) a od 1.5. 2017 je zástupcem ředitele pro výzkum. Od r. 2017 je zároveň předsedou Rady ÚTIA.

Výzkum

Hlavním oborem vědecké práce Jana Flussera je digitální zpracování obrazu a rozpoznávání, zejména pak fúze obrazů z různých zdrojů, momenty a momentové invarianty pro rozpoznávání objektů, registrace obrazů a slepé dekonvoluce. Je autorem či spoluautorem více než 200 původních vědeckých prací, mezi něž patří monografie Moments and Moment Invariants in Pattern Recognition (Wiley, 2009; překlad do čínštiny 2014), 2D and 3D Image Analysis by Moments (Wiley, 2016), přes 100 článků v prestižních časopisech a 20 tutorialů (ICIP'05, ICIP'07, EUSIPCO'07, CVPR'08, FUSION'08, SPPRA'09, ICIP'09, SPPRA'10, CGIM'10, AIA'14, CI'15, ICPR'16, ICIP'18, ICASSP'19) a zvaných plenárních přednášek (ICCS'06, COMPSTAT'06, WIO'06, DICTA'07, CGIM'08, SCIA'09) na význačných mezinárodních konferencích. Jeho publikace mají přes 21 000 Google Scholar citací a 11 500 SCOPUS citací (H-index 47, resp. 37). Jan Flusser byl hlavním řešitelem více než 20 vědeckých projektů základního výzkumu (národních i mezinárodních) i projektů aplikačních, zejména v počítačovém vidění, astronomii, dálkovém průzkumu Země a medicíně. V letech 2015-18 byl koordinátorem výzkumného programu "Naděje a rizika digitálního věku", který byl součástí  Strategie AV21. Výuka a vedení doktorandů

Jan Flusser se výrazně angažuje i ve vysokoškolské výuce a ve výchově doktorandů. Od roku 1991 pravidelně přednáší na MFF UK a od roku 1995 i na FJFI ČVUT. Vyučuje základní i pokročilé kurzy Digitální zpracování obrazu, Rozpoznávání, Strojové učení, Invarianty a wavelety. V roce 1998 se habilitoval na MFF UK v oboru Informatika a v roce 2004 byl jmenován profesorem pro obor Aplikovaná matematika na ČVUT. K úspěšné PhD obhajobě dovedl jako školitel 14 doktorandů včetně dvou zahraničních (údaj z r. 2024). Je předsedou/členem několika komisí pro státní závěrečné zkoušky a komisí pro obhajoby PhD dizertačních prací a předsedou komise pro obhajoby DSc. dizertačních prací na AV ČR v oboru Informatika a kybernetika. Je členem oborové rady doktorského programu Informatika na MFF UK, byl zakladatelem a prvním předsedou oborové rady doktorského studia v oboru Počítačová grafika a analýza obrazu na MFF UK (2012-2016), členem oborové rady doktorského studia v oboru Vizuální výpočty a počítačové hry, členem oborové rady doktorského studia v oboru Matematické inženýrství na FJFI ČVUT a členem oborové rady doktorského studia v oboru Umělá inteligence a biokybernetika na FEL ČVUT. Působil jako externí školitel doktorandů na  University of Technology Malaysia, Johor Bahru a University of Oulu, Finsko.

 

Organizační a další činnost

Jan Flusser byl členem mnoha programových a organizačních výborů mezinárodních vědeckých konferencí a osobně organizoval a vedl dvě speciální sekce na konferencích COMPSTAT'06 a CGIM'08. Od r. 2018 je General Chair série každoročních konferencí "Advances in Computing and Data Sciences ICACDS". Je/byl členem  Vědecké rady Západočeské univerzity v Plzni (2012-2025), členem Vědecké rady MFF UK (2012-2016), členem Vědecké rady Fakulty informatiky MU, Brno (2010-2014), členem Vědecké rady Fakulty managementu VŠE (od 2008), kde se rovněž angažuje v laboratoři Salome,  a členem Vědecké rady Přírodovědecké fakulty UJEP v Ústí nad Labem (od 2012). Je členem redakční rady časopisu Kybernetika, koordinátorem znalecké činnosti UTIA, členem Českého komitétu pro matematiku (IMU), členem Komise pro etiku vědecké práce AV ČR (od 2023) a je Senior Member IEEE.
